Proof of Work (PoW) is a consensus mechanism used in many cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, to validate and secure transactions on a decentralized network. It is designed to prevent double-spending and ensure the integrity of the blockchain.  In a PoW system, participants, known as miners, compete to solve complex mathematical puzzles. The puzzles require significant computational power, and the solution is difficult to find but easy to verify.
